Name: Superior Bike Park Dig Days
Date: March 19, 2011 - March 20, 2011
Event Description:
The Superior Bike Park is under construction at the Town’s newest park facility, Community Park East/3 Parks, and we need your help to make this great new park feature a reality.  Check your schedule and plan now to get involved in your community to make this happen!  Over 4 days on the weekends of March 12-13 and 19-20, we hope to have more than 100 volunteers invest in our community to help construct the tracks and jumps for the Bike Park, all under the direction of nationally-known, locally-based bike park designer Lee McCormack.
If you have walked, jogged, biked, or driven down Rock Creek Parkway recently and noticed the mounds of dirt in the area between the Saddlebrooke and Horizons neighborhoods, this is where it will all happen.  That area has been cleared in preparation for volunteers (i.e., you, your family and neighbors) to construct the jumps and other mountain bike and BMX features which Lee has designed to make up 4 tracks – an advanced flow track and a pump track, and a beginner’s flow track and pump track.  The amazing volunteers who help hand-shape the track will be the first to ride the finished product on March 20th.
The Town’s Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee (PROSTAC) and Town staff are reaching out to volunteer groups, sponsors and individuals who might be willing to participate. We’ll start between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. each day and work through the day.  We’ll have food, water, tools and restroom facilities available, so please come by and help for as long as you might be available.  Terrific raffle prizes will be given away each day.  You can just show up on those days, but if you have questions please contact Aaron Atwell (PROSTAC committee member, aaron.atwell@gmail.com, 303-638-2024), or the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department at 303-499-3675.  Remember, this project cannot happen without you!
