From Basement to Big Business: A Tour with Spinster Sisters' Kelly Perkins

For the month of July, our Superior Women in Business group is embarking on a "Summer Road Trip"! We'll all meet in Golden, Colorado, to connect with Kelly Perkins, CEO and Founder of Spinster Sisters. Kelly will share her inspiring journey of starting her soap-making business in her basement and growing it to be featured by major retailers like Whole Foods and Kroger.

 

Join us for a walkthrough tour of her production shop to see firsthand how her products are made. As a bonus, you'll have the opportunity to do some shopping and support this wonderful women-owned business. 

 

Please grab lunch before or after the tour, as lunch will not be provided for this event. Must RSVP by Monday, July 8th, 2024.

Spinster Sisters, founded by Kelly Perkins, is a brand that started in the '90s with a simple yet powerful goal: to avoid toxic ingredients. Kelly's journey began with a deep concern about chemicals like Triclosan, an antibacterial agent that is a hormone inhibitor. Frustrated with the lack of truly clean brands, she decided to make her own plant-based soap and skincare. Her dedication and passion led to the creation of products that people fell in love with, and thus, Spinster Sisters was born.

 

Where did the brand name come from? Back in the day, “Spinster” referred to a single woman past the “age" to marry, as if being single was a bad thing. When Kelly began to sell at markets with her sister's help, they were happily single––inspired by the spirit of singlehood + power of sisterhood, they named their first pop-up Spinster Sisters. Today, we remain inspired by women supporting women, whether as sisters, soul sisters, BFFs, single or coupled.
